Volkswagen will begin production of its XL1 plug-in hybrid in two years. "We want to go into series production with this car starting in 2013," VW chairman Ferdinand Piech told Automotive News Europe on Tuesday at an event in Doha, Qatar, ahead of the 2011 Qatar auto show where VW unveiled an XL1 prototype. After a slow start, Fiat 500s are starting to move off of dealer lots, according to an article in the Detroit Free Press. Fiat executives claim that the public debut of the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth at the Los Angeles auto show and some provocative advertising have led to increased interest in the Fiat brand. February was the best sales month yet for the model that Fiat chose to reintroduce Americans to sub-$100,000 Italian cars.

SUNDAY, DAY 3: LIVE NEWS FROM THE GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED. The 2008 Goodwood Festival of Speed rounded off with an epic Sunday with a jaw-dropping procession of supercars, historic race cars, an appearance by current F1 leader Lewis Hamilton and a series of historical curios and crashes to keep spectators on their toes. Sunday's highlight was the much-hyped appearance of McLaren F1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
